I am an elementary art teacher, with seven years of experience. Currently, I am a stay-at-home mom working on a Master's in Instructional Technology at the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT). My practicum requires a project that demonstrates my knowledge and ability to coach others in the use of technology in order to enhance the learning for all students. After some advice from my professor, I choose to incorporate my son's natural curiosity and developmental needs into my practicum project.
Levi is an only child and the youngest grandchild out of 9. But his youngest cousin is 9 years older than him. He turned one on January 9th, 2020, just before COVID shut everything down. During these critical developmental years, isolation from other young children has affected his speech and social skills. Levi receives services but exposure to other children and new social situations was a top priority for me as his mother. Before this project, Levi had been to the playground but he had never been to a library or an indoor area with other children his age. If you watch the videos in order of visits, you can observe Levi becoming more confident in social situations and more vocal about what he was experiencing. You can also watch my filming and editing skills improve, lol.
Levi lets off some STEAM! is a series of videos I made for a grad class, but it turned into a mother-son experience we will never forget. (Especially because it was filmed ; )
